YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Groups spread out across the city Saturday to help spruce up their neighborhoods.
It’s called Streetscape, and many volunteers including neighborhood groups helped to plant flowers and shrubs, as well as remove debris.
Executive Director Sharon Letson said people think of little flowers when it comes to Streetscape, but really it’s about economic development.
“The businesses that we have attracted downtown and businesses we have attracted to city are because of how we look at the city,” said Letson. “It is an exciting time to see and to be here at 9 o’clock at night and seeing all the buzz downtown.”
Projects centered on West Federal Street, the corner of Front and South Avenue, City Hall and Wick Park.
This marked the 17th year for the beautification program.
