Sexual assault reported in New Middletown

Police investigation

NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Village police are investigating a weekend sexual assault.

New Middletown Police Chief Vincent D’Egidio said police were called to a Main Street location on Saturday for a report of a sexual assault involving a 15-year-old boy who allegedly assaulted a girl under the age of 10.

Both the victim and the suspect were treated at Akron Children’s Hospital, but D’Egidio did not say what their injuries were. He said their relationship is that of extended family members.

Village police are being assisted by Mahoning County Children’s Services and the Child Advocacy Center. The chief said the investigation is pending as police wait for results of tests.

D’Egidio said no further information can be released at this time because of the sensitive nature of the investigation and the the involvement of juveniles.
