2014 Reds Draft Preview

Cincinnati Reds Draft Preview

Draft Notes
At 19 this year, the Reds will be selecting a player within the top 20 for only the second time in the last four years. Cincinnati was very successful drafting their first round choices from 2005 to 2010. Within that time frame, the Reds were able to establish a couple of big bats (Devin Mesoraco & Jay Bruce) along with a pitcher (Mike Leake) and the ability to land another big arm in Mat Latos through a trade with San Diego (Yonder Alonso & Yasmani Grandal).

Many experts see the Reds as looking to pick a high school player at the #19 slot. A few possible targets are outfielders Monte Harrison (Lee’s Summit West High School, MO) or Derek Hill (Elk Grove High School, CA). Also, pitching prospects Sean Reid-Foley (Sandalwood High School, FL) or lefty Kodi Medeiros (Waiakea High School, HI) have also been discussed.

Cincinnati’s 2011 3rd rounder Tony Cingrani has been with the team since 2012. However, this year, he started each of his 9 outings on the hill compiling a 4.83 ERA (2-5) with 46 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings.
