Promoting tourism was on agenda at Mill Creek Park

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Promoting tourism across Northeast Ohio was the goal of a meeting on Tuesday at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park.

The Mahoning County Covention and Visitors Bureau hosted the event for Adventures in Northeast Ohio. Mary Cusick, director of Tourism Ohio, talked about the economic impact of tourism on the entire state.

“We just got some new numbers that help us understand the economic impact of tourism in Ohio and as you look at that, direct sales, spending money in a restaurant or a hotel room, that’s $30 billion,” Cusick said.

The most recent figures for Mahoning County, which are from 2011, show tourism generated $500 million in economic impact.

Following the meeting, Cusick toured some other attractions in the area.
