AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A person with administrative access to the Facebook page “Ohio Hidden Cash” told WKBN on Friday that five keys important to the money scavenger hunt game will be hidden in five area cities tonight: Warren, Niles, Hubbard, Canfield and Boardman.
The keys will be hooked to reflectors, the administrator said, and many seekers will use flashlights to find them.
The administrator also said that, “the 25 keys that are being spread around all open a lockbox that will eventually be the pinnacle find of this game.”
The hidden cash craze is a scavenger hunt that has taken the country by storm and it is now here in the Valley. Generous individuals have been leaving cash in envelops and tipping off its location on social media.
It is called Ohio Hidden Cash. The man behind the Facebook page is hiding money and keys, leaving clues on that page and asking that once the treasure is located, the finders take a picture and share it on his page.
Scott Mezzapeso followed clues to Austintown Township Park on Saturday, where he found hidden cash under the bleachers at a baseball field at Austintown Township Park.
Laura Shinn did the same thing early Sunday morning, finding an envelope with a $100 bill inside at the base of a tree at the Lily Pond in Mill Creek Park. Her son, Joey, posed for a picture after the discovery.
Born and raised in the Valley, the man behind Ohio Hidden Cash wishes to remain anonymous, but said he will keep this game going as long as it continues to be a positive thing not only in his life, but the lives of those people playing too.
More than 2,000 people have liked the page on Facebook. The craze started in California several weeks ago with the anonymous donor using Facebook and Twitter to give clues. He uses the Twitter handle @HiddenCash.
