Reserve falls in State semis

Western Reserve fell to Newark Catholic 6-2 in the Division IV State Semifinals Thursday at Huntington Park in Columbus.

The Green Wave took control of the game with a 4-run sixth inning. Conor Keck capped off the scoring with a 2-run double.

The Blue Devils took advantage of a pair of Newark Catholic errors, loading the bases. However, the Blue Devils but managed just one run on a Zach Smith fielder’s choice RBI. Reserve’s only other run came in the second inning on a Dan Zilke RBI double.

Blue Devils Starter Nick Allison, who was battling elbow soreness, pitched just 1 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs with one strikeout, and two walks. Tristan Bova worked four innings of relief, allowing four earned runs, with two walks and one strikeout.

Western Reserve ends the season with a record of 19-6.

Newark Catholic improves to 20-7, and advances to face Defiance Tinora (24-4) in the Division IV State Finals Saturday at 10 AM at Huntington Park in Columbus.
