Donut Day marks opening of Youngstown shop

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – In honor of National Donut Day on Friday, a new business in downtown Youngstown used the “holiday” to mark their grand opening.

YO Doughnut Co. is the brainchild of three men who started coming up with the business idea in February. They wanted to bring something new to the downtown area and turned the former service station at 115 East Rayen Avenue into a place to stop and get a sweet treat.

“We had some friends who have a donut shop in Sebring, Ohio, and they were our inspiration,” said Co-Owner Mitch Scott. “They have been successful with their donut shop. Donuts make people happy.”

Donut Day began on the battlefields of France during World War II when Salvation Army workers served coffee and doughnuts to soldiers in the trenches.
