YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A great day for the annual Riverfest celebration in downtown Youngstown.
Friends of the Mahoning River hosted the annual event at the B-and- O station.
There were plenty of sights and sounds to take in- including canoe rides on the Mahoning.
YSU and the EPA were also on hand to talk to people about the importance of the river.
For the president of the Friends of the Mahoning River, it’s just reminding the valley about all the river has to offer.
“There’s so many bridges in Youngstown where you don’t see the river, and so “a lot of time people wonder where the river goes. and it goes right through the city. So this is something, one way to bring people down to the river,” said Patricia Dunbar, president, Friends of the Mahoning River.
Friends of the Mahoning is also working with Girard to get a kayak and canoe launch .
They’re hold a preliminary launch tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
If you want to join them, head to the B and O station tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.
You have to bring your own boat, kayak or life jacket.
You’ll also have to sign a waiver.
