LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) – WKBN First News reported in May about a plan to heat the public pool in Lisbon.
The concept was simple – put a black pipe on the roof near the pool, let the sun heat the water, then fill the pool. It’s something they hoped would drive down costs while also drawing more swimmers.
Parks director Dana Blackburn explained how the system works.
“The hose water goes up through the pipes and circles through the 200 years of pipe and then it circulates back down and in our filter tank,” said Blackburn.
The temperature of pool when it first opened was 69 degrees. Now with the news system, the water sits at 80 degrees.
Blackburn said the system has been a rousing success, noting that attendance has been through the roof.
