Player to Watch: Lou Derloni, RB-OLB/Hickory
Height: 6’1 weight: 210
The Hornets played a spirited game against eventual-state champ South Fayette (23-20) in the Western Final, one season ago. This year, Hickory has their eyes set on a return trip to the Final Four. Senior Lou Derloni will be a key cog as the team aspires to achieve the ultimate goal.
Last year, Derloni ran for 979 yards on 129 carries (7.6 ypc, 12 TDs) as he also caught 9 passes for 86 stripes. Number 11 averaged 8 yards per tote in half of the team’s games. Lou is not shy from making contact. He lowers his pads and seems to finish a run leaning forward quite often. He is also a solid blocker.
On defense, Derloni completed the 2013 season with 60 tackles and 2 forced fumbles. He is able to diagnose a play quickly and is around the ball a lot.
Hickory and Derloni will begin 2014 at Strong Vincent on August 29.
Tomorrow: Cameron Ifft, RB-LB/McDonald
