WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority on Thursday announced plans for an $8.9 million senior housing complex.

Parkman Landing, located at 2501 Parkman Road, will provide affordable housing for seniors age 55 and older. Groundbreaking for the mixed income, elderly independent living community is scheduled for January 2015, with tentative completion slated for June 2016.

The three-story, 60-unit building will consist of 40 one-bedroom apartments and 20 two-bedroom apartments. Amenities include a community room with kitchenette, lounge, patio, on-site laundry facilities and electronic door access control system.

“Parkman Landing will provide Trumbull County seniors with safe, comfortable and affordable housing that will add to their quality of life by providing a sense of community and encouraging an active lifestyle,” said TMHA Executive Director Donald W. Emerson, Jr. “And that’s the joint mission of the housing authority, Warren Housing Development Corp., and Parkman Landing Associates, Ltd.”

The new complex will replace some outdated senior housing at Riverview Apartments, as one of that community’s two buildings will be demolished. Some seniors at Riverview will be given the option to move to Parkman Landing, while others will be given the option to move to other appropriate TMHA communities, including the remaining Riverview building.

Parkman Landing is being developed by Warren Housing Development Corp. in conjunction with TMHA. Financing was provided by equity competitively awarded by the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), private non-profit funding and City HOME funds.

“We’re so pleased that brand new, affordable housing will soon be available for our senior population,” said Warren Mayor Doug Franklin. “As Warren’s Downtown and Parks revitalization efforts continue to move forward, Parkman Landing will help make the area a place where our senior population can find very nice, safe housing and the downtown business community will welcome their patronage.”

Partners for Parkman Landing include TMHA, Warren Housing Development Corp., Parkman Landing Associates, Ltd., and an affiliate of the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing. Archi-Tekton of Warren and Shaker Heights, will serve as architect and the general contractor is being competitively bid.
