Player to Watch: Victor Williams, RB-OLB/Howland
Height: 5’11 weight: 170
To summarize Victor’s season within one game, one would have to look no further than Howland’s October 18th matchup at Niles. On the third play from scrimmage, freshman Victor Williams picked off a Kyle Paden pass and returned it 71-yards for the score. In the second quarter of the same game, he returned a kickoff untouched 87 yards for another touchdown.
On offense, he is a game breaker. Versus Struthers, he went up and caught a jump ball and was able to keep his balance as he went 50-yards for the touchdown. Also against the Wildcats, Williams somehow kept his momentum on a second or third effort play which resulted in a touchdown run. From his linebacker position, Victor caught many ball carriers from behind on stretch plays. In the season opener, Victor jumped a Kenmore runner in the hole for a five-yard loss which almost brought about a safety to be signaled by the referees. The following week, #20 intercepted Harding’s Hasan Muhammad’s pass and returned it 47-yards for a score.
Fast forward three years, Williams could be in the same mold as some of the true standout performers who called Howland home.
Howland will welcome Kenmore to Richard Lombardo Stadium on Friday, August 29.
