Man charged with assaulting boy in Walmart bathroom

GROVE CITY, Pa. (WKBN) — It is every parent’s nightmare, their child assaulted while they are using a public restroom. It happened to one father and his 9 year old son at the Grove City Wal-mart yesterday afternoon. In this case WKBN 27 First News Reporter Jeff Levkulich reports that the culprit was caught thanks to you the viewers.

Shawn Michael Miller had nothing to say as he was being led away in handcuffs by Pennsylvania State Police. Miller was arrested less than 16 hours after he allegedly assaulted a boy in the bathroom of the Grove City Wal Mart. Several people we talked to are glad he was caught so quick.

“We are relieved as a community he really had no chance he had everyone in Mercer County looking for him,” said Tim Horner of Grove City.

“I was really upset because being local it could happen to anybody,” said Paula Levy of Emlenton.

Police said Miller grabbed the boy from behind and pulled him into the stall and shut the door. The nine year old began to scream and was finally able to break away. Miller left the store.

Police said he walked out the front door and into the wooded area next to the Walmart and may not have been seen again if it wasn’t for the cameras that got a good look at him.

“Got his picture out there, and through that picture being out there overnight and social media picking up on it we received numerous phone calls identifying who the actor was,” said Lt. Thomas Dubovi with the Pennsylvania State Police.

According to the affidavit, Miller told police the boy was being mouthy with him. He admitted to investigators that he intended on “hitting” the boy because he was angry with him.

Police have this advice for parents.

“Whether it is a Walmart or your at the local fair or carnival, you want to have your kids in sight because you you don’t know who is lurking around,” Dubovi said.

Miller is charged with unlawful restraint and simple assault and is being held in the Mercer County Jail.
