Thiel, PA (WKBN)- Some of the best football players from PIAA Districts 9 and 10 competed in the 24th annual North-South All-Star Football Game Saturday. The third annual event was held at Thiel College’s Alumni Stadium.
The teams were made up of seniors from Erie, Warren, Crawford, and Venango counties for the North and Mercer and Lawrence counties for the South.
The South was able to walk away with the win 27-26, despite being out-gained by the North 442-318.
Greenville’s Matt Jones had a big game, throwing for 173 yards, completing 7-13 passes for 3 TD’s. The second one went to fellow Greenville senior Tyler Fattman from 18 yards out. Jones is going to the University of Mount Union to play baseball.
The South only trailed once the entire game, that was in the first quarter when the North’s Tyler Sanders took the option pitch from Zach Fox for the 6-0 lead.
Turnovers really hurt the North team, the South was able to force three interceptions.
Matt Jones was named MVP of the North’s offense, Josiah Bloise of Wilmington was the MVP of the defense who had two tackles.
