Birthday boy gives back to homeless animals

FOWLER, Ohio (WKBN) — A 7-year old boy used his birthday as a way to give back to animals without a home.

Alex Sandford asked his friends to bring him donations for the Animal Welfare League and Cats Are People, Too! animal shelters instead of presents for him. The response was overwhelming.

Alex said he was shocked when he saw all the gifts. His mom Tara said she’s proud of her son.

“Just very proud, just glad that he’s so selfless and we must be doing something right,” said Tara Sandford, Alex’s mother.

“We wanted the animals to be healthy and people might not want to adopt unhealthy animals,” said Alex Sandford.

Sandford said they’ll be dropping off the donations sometime this week.
