Dead fish will be removed from Pine Lake

NORTH LIMA, Ohio (WKBN) — Aqua Ohio is hiring a contractor to clean up hundreds of dead carp in Pine Lake, which the company owns, according to company spokesman Jeff LaRue.

LaRue said the carp swim upstream and get caught in the swamp area, where the water is shallow and stagnant. They then die from a lack of oxygen.

Residents in the area reported a foul smell in the area and it was determined the odor was from the dead fish.

LaRue said this happens every four or five years depending on the amount of rainfall. He said nothing is wrong with the water in the lake and no other species of fish died.
