East Liverpool police seek cash register bandit

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) — Police are seeking a city man who is accused of stealing a cash register from a convenience store late last week.

A warrant has been issued for Herbert Jones, 26, of East Liverpool. Police said a man entered the Walnut Street Dollar General store on Thursday and grabbed the cash register, but was chased off by employees before he could remove it.

The suspect got into a four-door, white Dodge Charger and drove away. Less than 10 minutes later, police were called to Gilkinson’s Short Stop on Avondale Street, where employees said a man came in and placed an order for deli meat.

While the employee was filling his order, the employee heard a loud noise and saw the man running out of the store with the cash register. The suspect’s description given by employees at both stores was similar and police used surveillance video from the Dollar General to identify the suspect as Jones.

Anyone with information on Jones’ whereabouts is asked to call East Liverpool police at 330-385-1234.
