Youngstown gas leak contained, repaired

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A couple of busy arteries in and out of downtown Youngstown opened back up around noon after a sizeable gas leak in the area was contained.

The break happened a little after 10 a.m. Tuesday along Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard across from the B.J. Alan Fireworks plant.

Ohio Edison crews were replacing a utility pole when they drilled into an 8-inch natural gas line.

City firefighters and police closed MLK as well as Rayen Avenue near the break, and employees at one nearby business were briefly evacuated as a precaution.

The area was re-opened once crews from Dominion East Ohio were able to shut off the gas.
