Optimist Club promotes patriotism

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) —  The Springfield Township Optimist Club is promoting patriotism with a new program.

It is called the “Fly Your Flag” campaign. For $25 a year, a flag will be placed in residents’ front yard for Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Election Day and Veterans Day.

Boy Scout Troop 49 installed the flags.

“The whole point of doing all this is as a fundraising project for youth activities. That’s what the Optimist Club is really about is helping youth in the township,” said Springfield Township Optimist Club member Rob McAndrew.

About 200 people signed up for the flag program this first year, raising $5,000 for the club.
