AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Austintown Fire Department, police department and fireworks committee received several thousand dollars in donations at Monday’s township trustees meeting.
The Fraternal Organization of the Eagles in Austintown presented donations to the fire and police departments and to the senior center. The money will be used to help with equipment upgrades and safety items.
Also, owners of the new Austintown racino made a donation to the organizers of the township’s Fireworks Festival, which will be held from 4 to 10:30 p.m. July 3 at Austintown Township Park. Fireworks will take place at 10 p.m. and there will be live bands throughout the evening, as well as activities for children, a safety vehicle display, food and cornhole.
“We have a lot of organizations and individuals in the community who believe Austintown is moving in the right direction,” said Austintown Trustee Lisa Oles.
“Everybody is fighting for every dollar. There is grant money out there but grant money can only go so far and be used for certain things. And we are on a tight budget like everybody else. So donations help out a lot. It helps us buy things we could not budget for before,” said Austintown Police Chief Bob Gavalier.
Ed Reese, one of the owners of Briarfield Healthcare, announced a donation of $10,000 to the fireworks celebration as well.
