Storms knock out power in Boardman

A power line came down on the Ohio Turnpike in Beaver Township, Ohio.

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Heavy rain and thunderstorms rolled through the Valley Monday night.

About 1.50 inches of rain fell in parts of Mahoning County and over 2 inches of rain fell in some areas of Mercer County, specifically near Greenville and Sandy Lake.

At the height of the storms, several hundred customers were without power in Mahoning County. At last check, Ohio Edison reported about 200 customers are still without electricity. The hardest hit area is in Boardman along Glenwood Avenue, south of Shields Road.

A tree came down overnight in the area taking down power lines. All power should be restored by 11 a.m.

Additional thunderstorms are expected Tuesday afternoon.
