Poland shines at community event

POLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – A festival in Poland is sure to be a big draw this weekend.

Celebrate Poland is happening at the center of town. The festivities kicked off Friday with a parade, strawberry festival, live entertainment and plenty of food.

It’s all happening near the Village Hall where Civil War re-enactors are setting up for a demonstration on Saturday.

People of all ages can find something special at the celebration. Jeffery and Ryan Kollar said their favorite part is the parade.

“They throw candy out, and they make all those noises and you can get the candy,” said Jeffery. “It is a lot of fun. I would tell anyone to come out.”

David Smith with Poland Presbyterian Church is in charge of the Graveyard Tour and other historical happenings. He said the festival is a good way for to see your neighbors and reconnect with old friends.

“I think it is something people get used to. They look forward to it because they get to meet their neighbors and some people you haven’t seen or are out of town and come back,” said Smith.

The event wraps up Saturday night with a fireworks display at 10 p.m.

Free bus shuttles will be provided for the event: On Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. parking is available at the Poland Methodist Church on route 224 with shuttle service from the parking lot. From 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., parking will also be available at Poland High School on Route 170 and Dobbins Road. Shuttles will run from both locations.
