Scrappers fall again at home

Niles, OH (WKBN)- For the third night in a row, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers were unable to come up with the big hit at the right time as they fell to the Jamestown Jammers 4-2. The loss drops the Scrappers to 5-10 on the season.

For the first time during the three game skid, the Scrappers did not score first. The Jammers jumped out to the early lead in the top of the 2nd. With 1 out, Michael Fransoso singled. Tyler Filliben then hit a ground rule double to put runners at second and third. Carl Anderson bounced into a fielder’s choice to bring in the first run of the game. Jordan Luplow followed with a 2 run double for a 3-0 Jammers lead.

The Scrappers were able to put cut the deficit to a single run when they plated 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th innings. Greg Allen started the inning by doubling off the wall in right field. Bradley Zimmer then reached base on a throwing error by Filliben. Francisco Mejia made sure the error was costly for the Jammers when he doubled off the wall in centerfield to bring Allen and Zimmer in to score.

The Scrappers would see the deficit increase in the top of the 7th inning. Anderson led off the inning with a bunt single. Kevin Ross then laid down a sacrifice bunt. However Dominic Demasi threw the ball away at first base allowing both runners to advance an extra base. Following a walk to Taylor Gushue to load the bases, Michael Suchy singled to score Anderson with the final run of the game.

Luis DeJesus (0-2) started for Mahoning Valley and took the loss. DeJesus lasted only 3 innings. He allowed 4 hits and 3 runs, all earned. He walked 3 and struck out 2. Justin Garcia followed DeJesus and went 3 scoreless innings. Garcia allowed 2 hits. He struck out 1 and walked 2. DeMasi relieved Garcia in the 7th. DeMasi allowed an unearned run on 3 hits. He walked 1 and did not record a strike out. Luke Eubank pitched the final 1.1 innings. He did not allow a run or a hit. He did not walk a batter and did not record a strikeout.

For the Jammers, Montana DuRapu was the starter. He allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out 3. Jose Regelado (3-0) followed DuRapu. Regelado pitched 3 scoreless innings to pick up the win. He walked 1 and struck out 3. Jared Lakind pitched the final 2 innings to pick up his first save of the season. Lakind walked 1 and struck out 4 without allowing a hit.

The Scrappers and Jammers will continue their series on Saturday night at 7:05. It will be Youth Jersey giveaway night to the first 500 kids 12 and under. If you can’t be at Eastwood Field or on the road, catch all the Scrappers games this season with Tim Pozsgai on Sports Radio 1240 AM.
