Fire breaks out at Mahoning County Jail

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Fire department workers had to come to the Mahoning County Jail Monday afternoon after a small fire broke out in the jail’s laundry room.

Major Aliki Santamas said a contained fire broke out inside a commercial dryer in the jail’s laundry room and that no one had to evacuate.

The building’s automatic sprinkler system went off, and the fire department put the fire out.

The fire did not affect any areas of the building where inmates are being housed, Santamas said.
