Day of firsts for university presidents

KENT, Ohio (WKBN) – It was a day of first for university presidents at three local colleges.

The University of Akron, Kent State, and Youngstown State University all welcomed new presidents on Tuesday.

Beverly Warren officially took the helm at Kent State University. She started her day meeting with students and Kent city leaders.

She made a stop at the Kent Ashtabula branch and officially activated her Kent State twitter account. She already has close to 700 followers.

Jim Tressel also began his day at YSU meeting with faculty and students. Tressel has been on the job a couple of weeks filling in for the retiring interim president.

The University of Akron welcomed Scott Scarborough to campus.

Scarborough beat out Tressel for the position. Tressel was most recently the executive vice president for student success at Akron University.

That position has not been filled and Scarborough will determine if the position will be eliminated. The Office of Student Success remains open.

Three employees who work in the office are taking on extra duties. They received a one-time stipend of about $10,000 for the extra workload.
