East Liverpool bank robbery suspect awaiting trial

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Brian Johnston is in the Columbiana County Jail awaiting trial Tuesday after a U.S. attorney announced a federal grand jury indictment against him last week.

Mike Tobin, Public Information Officer for the Northern District of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, said the U.S. Attorney’s Office has asked for Johnston to be transferred to federal custody. Once he is transferred, an arraignment and trial will be scheduled.

A federal grand jury charged Johnston, 41, of Calcutta, Ohio, with bank robbery.

The indictment charges that on or about May 29, Johnston robbed the Home Savings and Loan Company in East Liverpool, Ohio, of approximately $1,756.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the East Liverpool Police Department, and the St. Clair Township Police Department conducted the investigation that led to Johnston’s charge. The matter is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David M. Toepfer.
