Funeral plans finalized for Paul Heltzel

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Funeral arrangements have been finalized for Trumbull County Commissioner Paul Heltzel.

Heltzel died Monday after a long battle with cancer.

Calling Hours are scheduled for Sunday, July 6, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, 126 W. Park Ave, Niles. A funeral service will be held Monday, July 7 at 10 a.m. at  St. Stephen Church, 126 W. Park Ave., Niles. Burial will take place at All Souls Cemetery, 3823 Hoagland Blackstub Road, Cortland (Bazetta Townshhip).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that monetary remembrances be made to the Paul E. Heltzel Memorial Scholarship Fund at John Carroll University, 1 Carroll Blvd, University Heights, Ohio 44115 or The Healing Garden, care of St. Joseph’s Hospital, 667 Eastland Avenue, Warren, Ohio 44484.

Heltzel, 69, went to Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, Ohio for high school and graduated from John Carroll University. He served as commissioner for the past 10 years and was in the middle of his third term. He was first elected in 2004 and was re-elected in 2008 and 2012.

Heltzel is survived by his wife and four sons.
