Youngstown, OH (WKBN)- For the 12th straight year, Cardinal Mooney held its “Camp of Champions” for the Valley’s youth, and once again, some of the game’s best and biggest names provided the instruction.
Over 200 kids, from 3rd to 8th grade, attended the two-day event, which wrapped up Tuesday morning. Nebraska Head Coach and Mooney grad Bo Pelini headlined the names who taught kids the fundamentals of the game. Pelini hasn’t missed a camp since its inception…and he says it’s all about giving back to the place he loves.
“It’s just good to come back,” said Pelini. “I feel very fortunate to have gone to school here at Mooney. I feel that it’s a big part of laying the foundation of where I am today. It’s a special place, with the right values, the right principles.”
“I think that it speaks volumes to what this school’s about and this special bond that you have at this school,” said Mooney head football coach P.J. Fecko. “These guys totally believe in it, they believe it’s a big part of their success.”
Other coaches on hand included Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops, Notre Dame Safeties Coach, Kyle McCarthy, and YSU’s linebacker coach Ron Stoops, among others.
