ORLANDO, Florida (WKBN) – Former Youngstown State men’s basketball player Kendrick Perry will play for the Orlando Magic in the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League, July 5-11.
The 25-game, seven-day event will feature the Magic, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers.
Each team will play five games over the seven-day event, with a championship day being played on the final day of the league. A point system will establish the standings leading up to the final day, with eight points awarded each game based on: four points for winning the game and one point for winning a quarter (in the event of a tied quarter, each team will receive 0.5 points). In the event of ties in seeding heading into championship day, three tiebreakers will be in place: 1) total point differential; 2) total points allowed; 3) coin flip.
Perry finished his career at Youngstown State as the school’s Division I leading scorer with 1,991 career points.
He also is the YSU career leader with 246 steals, 123 games played, 115 games started, 4,184 minutes played and 504 free-throws made. Perry also finished second all-time with 201 3-pointers made and third with 505 career assists. He also finished third on the all-time scoring list.
During his senior season, Perry finished the regular season as the Horizon League’s overall scoring leader at 20.9 points per game and ended the season at 21.3 points per game. A Capital One Academic All-America Second-Team selection in 2013-14, Perry scored at least 30 points on nine occasions, including a career-high 35 points against NCAA Tournament participant Milwaukee on Feb. 20 and Oakland on March 4.
He scored a YSU Division I single-season record 682 points and his points per game average was also a new Division I single-season mark. He was also the first player to score at least 600 points since 1986-87.
With 140 assists, he ranked fourth in the Horizon League in assists and became the first Division I player to record at least 100 assists in four consecutive seasons.
