YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Cardinal Mooney High School got a substantial donation on Thursday.
Part of the money, from Mooney graduates Denise DeBartolo York and Eddie DeBartolo, goes to an endowment that will help families pay for tuition.
According to school officials, there will be about 500 students in the school next year. Of those, nearly half are on some sort of scholarship.
Bishop George Murry said the money helps families who are serious about giving their kids a Catholic education.
“In the present economy, education is expensive. And the parents who make this a priority often times have to make sacrifices in order to provide a Catholic education for their children,” Murry said.
The rest of the money will go maintaining the Erie Street building. Neither the school nor the alumni would say exactly how much money was donated.
