AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Austintown police are asking for the public’s help in locating two chronic teen runaways.
Naydean Kross Lobato is just 13 years old and De’Vonte Jackson is 16.
Kross Lobato’s disappearance happened about the same time that Austintown teen Gina Burger was reported missing. The girls look very similar.
Burger was found stabbed to death two weeks ago at a waste transfer station in Mercer County. Police believe she was stabbed inside a Compass West apartment by 18-year-old drifter Ricki Williams.
It is not typical for police departments to release information to the public on such a wide scale about habitual runaways, so WKBN First News asked Austintown Lieutenant Jeff Solic if the Burger case prompted the release concerning their search for Kross Lobato and Jackson.
Solic said that the murder of the 16-year-old was certainly an eye opener for a number of reasons, including the similarity in the girls’ cases.
Kross Lobato has run away seven times this year. Two weeks ago, detectives thought they saw her on the west side of Youngstown.
“She ran out of the back of the house. Again, we didn’t know how long she was there. We did recover some of her belongings,” said Solic.
Jackson has run away five times. Solic said he has a habit of traveling to the Warren area.
“He will come back and leave that same day or a few days later,” Solic said.
Missing person reports have been filed for both teens. Solic said there doesn’t appear to be a motive as to why the juveniles are running away. He thinks as teens they really don’t understand the consequences of their actions.
“Seems like for whatever reason kids just don’t want to listen and want to leave and they think they can do whatever,” Solic said. “There is truly evil out there.”
If you have any information on the teens whereabouts, please call police at 330-799-9721.
