Scrappers drop 4th straight

Niles, Ohio (WKBN)- It didn’t matter that a new team came to town Monday for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (8-16) as they dropped the first game of their series, and fourth straight, losing to Williamsport 8-1.

The Crosscutters jumped on starter Juan Santana early and often. Williamsport put up one in the 1st, one in the 2nd, then three in the 4th and 7th.

It all started when Derek Campbell doubled off Santana, scoring Jiandido Tromp to make it 1-0.

Santana went 5 innings, gave up 9 hits, 5 runs, two earned and struckout 3.

In the second, Rhys Hoskins lead the inning off with a double and was brought home a few batters later when Drew Stankiewicz singled to make it 2-0.

The Scrappers were only able to muster 5 hits in the contest. Their only run came when Drake Roberts grounded out with runners on 2nd and 3rd that scored Taylor Murphy.

The two teams are back at Eastwood Field tomorrow at 7:05.
