3 Things to Watch in Grove City
Senior Quarterback.
Jared Graham didn’t have the same type of help he had in 2012 when he completed 60.4% of his passes (32-53). Last fall, he only connected on 44.9% of his throws (31-69). Entering his third year as the team’s starter, Graham will be asked to lead Grove City into 2014. He will have a bevy of talented ball carriers and receivers at his disposal. Seniors Tanner Lucido (250 rushing yards, 2 TDs), Donny Sevin (134 rushing yards, 14.9 ypc), and Jesse Hodge (124 rushing yards, 3 TDs; 94 receiving yards, 1 TD) will all be looked upon to take their games to the next level. Grove City has averaged 22 points or more in each of the last eight seasons.

Defensive breakdown?
Grove City ranked in the top 10 in points allowed from 2010 to 2012. The defense hadn’t allowed the opposition to average more than 19 points per game for a season since 2001 (29.7). That was until last year. The Eagles ranked 34th among area teams in points allowed as they permitted their foes to score 25.1 points per outing. In 2014, they return a trio of senior linebackers in Tanner Lucido (led the team with 71 tackles), Dandre Byers (35 tackles) and Donny Sevin (32 tackles). Grove City will also welcome back defensive back Jesse Hodge (5 INTs) as well as linemen Boone Lyons (2 sacks) and Ian Craig (1.5 sacks).

Focus: Running the football.
Over the past five seasons, coach Jeff Bell’s offense has utilized the ground game 86% (86.1%) of the 2,846 plays which were run from the line of scrimmage. In that time, the Eagles have converted touchdowns on an astonishing 242 of those plays. Last season resulted in the lowest yard per carry average since 2009 (6.0 in both years).
