MAHONING TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WKBN) – The owner of a Lawrence County paving company plans to rebuild after a fire Tuesday night destroyed his business.
The fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. at SealMaster Paving on West State Street in Mahoning Township.
When crews arrived, smoke and flames could be seen shooting from the side of the building.
Firefighters worked quickly to contain the damage, but the way the building is set up made it tough to fight the fire.
SealMaster Paving Owner L.J. Rich said he received the call of a burglar alarm going off Tuesday night and thought his business had been robbed. Rich was shocked to see his family business of 27 years was engulfed in flames. Mahoning Township Fire Chief Frank Exposito said the building is total loss.
“The burglar alarm came and the police department arrived. They searched the building and opened the door and the back room of the warehouse was on fire,” Exposito said.
Several departments were called to assist in battling the blaze.
A cause has not been determined. The State Fire Marshal is investigating.
SealMaster manufactures pavement maintenance products and sells equipment to contractors in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Rich said the business employs about 13 workers.
According to their website, the Rich family has owned and operated the SealMaster franchise since 1987.
