Eatery honored for patriotic act

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – For some time now, workers and patrons at one Boardman restaurant have started their day with the Pledge of Allegiance.

On Friday morning, directors with the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission recognized the Bob Evans near the Southern Park Mall and long-time employee Sally Canavan for their patriotism. It was Canavan who first came up with the idea several years ago.

“I really suggested it out of love for my dad being a World War II veteran, and all of our veterans and those who have served. I’m very proud to know them all,” Canavan said.

She said response has been strong from the very beginning and said some customers even thank her for leading the Pledge.
