Sharon gets the word out on smoke detector program

Sharon smoke detector program

SHARON, Ohio (WKBN) – More than one out of every three deadly house fires in the country is because of non-working smoke detectors.

To help lessen that statistic, the American Red Cross in Sharon was out Saturday morning to educate people on working smoke detectors. They were also handing out information on how residents can get a free smoke detector for their home.

An application must be filled out and officials with the Sharon Fire Department will install the smoke detectors.

Applications can be picked up at the Sharon Fire Department, the Sharon City Building, the Community Library of Shenango Valley, Walgreens on East State Street and Family Video on East State Street.
