Mt. Carmel granted title as Minor Basilica

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Mt. Carmel in downtown Youngstown has been given the title of “Minor Basilica” by Pope Francis.

The title is not given to all Roman Catholic Churches, but it is used to describe churches built in a particular style.

There are less than a dozen churches with that title in the Buckeye State, and around 14 minor basilica churches in Pennsylvania.
