Tar-covered dog found in E. Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – A dog covered in tar was found Sunday afternoon along Michigan Avenue.

Neighbors said the dog also had burn marks and debris covered its fur. On Monday, chunks of tar still littered the yard of Patty Mook, who first saw the dog in an alley and called police.

A short time later, the dog followed her onto her porch. Officers did respond to her home, but a worker from a rescue shelter ended up taking the dog.

“Terrible. I thought he had been totally covered. But when we finally got him up on the porch, only one side of him had been covered,” Mook said.

Neighbors said road crews were doing work in the area, but are not sure that is how the dog got covered in tar. The dog was reunited with its owner, and is still receiving medical treatment.
