Teen drowns in Slippery Rock Creek

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. (WKBN) – An Ellwood City teen drowned at a popular swimming spot in Lawrence County.

John Wayne Durnell, 17, was swimming with a friend Sunday afternoon in Slippery Rock Creek at Kennedy’s Mills along Frew Mill Road when he was swept under water.

The currents in the creek were very strong.

Pennsylvania State Police and the coroner are investigating.
