EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – A family is without a place to live after a tree fell through their Martin Street home Sunday evening.
Frank Lewis said he was sitting on the couch when a thunderstorm rolled through. Lewis said the lights went out, there was a rumble and a huge tree came crashing through their living room. It tore off the wall behind the couch he was sitting in at the time.
His friend, Andrew Vogel, also was sitting in the living room when the tree crashed through. He said he thought they were all going to die.
Lewis and his family rent the house and can’t live there anymore because there was so much damage. No one was injured.
“I just don’t know what to do. I know I just got to man up, but I just have no clue what to do,” Lewis said.
He said besides him, his wife and his children, the family also includes two dogs, a cat and three fish.
“I couldn’t even explain. I was scared. My wife was upstairs where it came through so my first reaction was to get upstairs and get my wife,” Lewis said.
He said the family is looking for a new place to live and is trying to salvage some of their belongings from the home.
Lewis said it will be tough to find a new place to live because he did not have renter’s insurance.
“A disaster is a disaster. We just lost everything we had that we built up to have. We just lost everything. Make sure you get renter’s insurance. You got to have it because if you don’t, you are stuck,” Lewis said.
They are getting a little help from their current landlord. Lewis said they are getting their deposit back plus half of this month’s rent, which they will be putting toward a new place.
