NEWTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – The Trumbull County Coroner’s office confirmed Tuesday that accidental drowning caused the death of a father and son in Newton Township over the weekend.

Police found Anthony Harris, Sr., 48 and Anthony Harris, Jr., 20, dead Sunday evening and Monday morning, respectively.

Authorities received a call Saturday evening of a truck by a pond in Newton Township. The private pond is located off Miller Graber Road.

Family members also called police after the pair said they were leaving to go fishing Saturday morning.

“What we are thinking is that the father is the initial person that fell in. The shoes were off of the son in the boat, so he probably kicked or took his shoes off to rescue his father and he perished also,” Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office Major Harold Firster told WKBN News Monday.
