Southington names new superintendent

SOUTHINGTON, Ohio (WKBN) – Southington Local Schools has named a new leader.

Rocco Nero will take over as the district’s part-time superintendent Aug. 1.

District Treasurer Janet Ward said the appointment is a three-year contract with a salary of $75,000 each year. He will work about 10 less days than what is included in a normal superintendent’s contract.

Ward said the district had considered sharing a superintendent with a neighboring district to save money, but no district was interested in participating in a shared services agreement.

Nero’s most recent position was superintendent of Lowellville Schools.

Voters in the Southington district turned down an emergency additional 4.9-mill levy this past May. Teachers there have been working under a wage freeze for six years.
