YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Already having been recognized by President Barack Obama on two occasions, the Valley’s additive manufacturing business will once again be in the spotlight at the end of this month.
America Makes, the new name for the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute in Youngstown, will be hosting a program starting July 31.
The event will feature what’s being called a “3-D Printer Shootout” put on by “Make: Magazine” to show off the local Institute and additive manufacturing in general.
On Monday, Mahoning County Commissioners agreed to spend $20,000 to help sponsor the event.
“That gives Youngstown national exposure in the media. As a hub of 3-D manufacturing here, this event will bring people from all over the country to see what’s going on,” Linda Macala of the Mahoning County Convention and Visitors Bureau said.
The event also will include a public open house at America Makes downtown. Organizers hope it will attract 300 to 400 visitors.
