FARRELL, Pa. (WKBN) – A Wheatland woman was arrested Thursday afternoon after police said she was caught shoplifting and then tried to run over the store manager with her car.

Rachel Vatavuk, 21, of Kennedy Street, is facing charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, retail theft and driving under suspension. She was taken to the Mercer County Jail pending her arraignment.

According to a report from the Southwest Mercer County Regional Police Department, Vatavuk was detained by a manager of the Golden Dawn Store, 827 Sharon-New Castle Road in Farrell, for shoplifting about 3 p.m. Vatavuk got away from the manager and then went to her vehicle.

The store manager followed Vatavuk to her vehicle and was standing behind the vehicle getting information from the license plate when Vatavuk started to back up her vehicle, the police report states. The manager got out of the way of the vehicle, but Vatavuk continued to back toward the manager until she struck him with her rear bumper, police said.

Vatavuk then fled from the store, but she was arrested a short time later at her home.
