Kids learn bicycle safety

bicycle safety program in youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Several organizations teamed up to help make bicycling safer for kids on Monday.

Safe Kids of Akron Children’s Hospital and Mill Creek MetroParks sponsored the free giveaway for kids. Children took home free bicycle helmets and got a bike safety lesson.

Their parents were taught about proper helmet fit.

“Bicycle accidents are the leading cause of all ER visits from any children’s outdoor activity. So if you wear your helmet and you wear it properly, you might have a bad wreck that if you would not have had your helmet on could have been a really bad wreck,” Rikki Brammer from Mill Creek MetroParks said.

Motorists in the park are asked to be extra careful around young riders.
