Lawmakers take minimum wage challenge

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Congressman Tim Ryan is living on minimum wage for one week, and is challenging other lawmakers to do the same.

Ryan, D-Niles, is being joined by other Democrat lawmakers, who want to see the federal minimum wage increase to more than $10 per hour. The current wage keeps families in poverty, he said.

The federal wage has not increased in five years.

“With a challenge such as this, we really are understanding this in an intellectual way, but really understand the deep challenges people face who are working hard, playing by the rules, wanting to do what’s best for their families,” Ryan said.

The congressman said increasing the minimum wage will bring benefits across the entire economy.
