Grand opening held for new CNG fueling station

WEATHERSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – The grand opening of a natural gas fueling station was held Tuesday morning in Trumbull County.

IGS CNG Services has been operating its eighth public compressed natural gas fueling station behind the Mr. Fuel facility on Salt Springs Road in Weathersfield Township for a few weeks now, but held an official grand opening Tuesday morning.

The station will service a growing number of local businesses and drivers who are converting their vehicles to natural gas as a way to save money.

One of the first vehicles to pull up to the pump on Tuesday was a Weathersfield Township vehicle.

“Anything that is $2.24 cents a gallon compared to the $4 or $3.50. We are trying to save a buck any way we can,” said Weathersfield Township Trstee Marvin McBride.

IGS President Scott White said the fueling station is a big project for them. It’s the first CNG station in Northeast Ohio and the third in Ohio.

White said they are taking a chance because the industry is in its infancy.

“If you use enough gallons per year, the math is pretty simple. We think people will understand that, and we are seeing the trucking industry start to move toward CNG,” White said. “We want to make it easier for them to do that.”

A bill is currently being considered in the Ohio State Capital that would use grant money to help residents and governments lessen the cost of converting their vehicles to use compressed natural gas.

Other IGS CNG stations include locations in Dayton, Dublin, Findley, and Orville and three other locations in West Virginia.
