Kids spruce up vandalized Youngstown garden

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A group of kids are working to fix a community garden targeted by vandals about two weeks ago.

Wendy Robinson of Warriors, Inc. said a few weeks ago, they found concrete benches, large stones and a bird bath destroyed at a garden on the corner of Hayman Street and Griffith Street in Youngstown.

Robinson said it’s discouraging to the kids in the garden program at Warriors Inc. because they work so hard to make it beautiful.

“It’s very discouraging, but at the same time, we have to take every opportunity to use it as a teaching tool and show them that they are leaders in the community. This is an opportunity for them to show and lead by example that just because someone tears it up does not mean to quit and give up,” Robinson said.

Robinson said this is not the first time the garden has been hit. She said in the past, people have taken bushes right out of the ground.
