AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – In light of the recent product concerns at Schwebel’s bakery viewers have had lots of questions about food safety. So, our news crew went to the Mahoning County Board of Health to learn more.
The board does not inspect processing or manufacturing plants, that task is left to the Department of Agriculture and in some cases the FDA.
Boards of health inspect restaurants, catering businesses, and even grocery stores looking for how food is handled.
“Whether it is being held at the correct temperatures, either below 35 degrees for cold food or above 135 degrees for hot food,” Mary Helen Smith, Mahoning County District Board of Health.
Smith said the problems they uncover are quickly resolved during their visits.
