Man and teen arrested in New Castle shooting

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN) – A New Castle man and a teenager are behind bars in New Castle after a shooting and manhunt Thursday night.

Police were called to the 200 block of West Avenue around 10:40 p.m. on reports of a shooting. At the same time, officers were called to Jameson Hospital in reference to a male gunshot victim identified as John L. Hawkins Jr., 27, of New Castle.

Officers tracked down two suspects, Leland Burnette, 17, and Markeace Perkins, 18, both of New Castle, to a house on Epworth Street. Burnette ran from the house and into a wooded area where police set up a perimeter and ultimately caught him. Perkins was arrested inside the Epworth Street house.

Burnette was charged with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault and conspiracy, along with firearm charges.

Perkins was charged with conspiracy to commit attempted homicide and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
